Effects of Covid-19 on Youth's Mental Health and Physical Activity

The infamous Covid-19 impact was a drastic turn of events for the entire world. According to a study by Alves, et al. (2021) there is a concern regarding how the Covid-19 pandemic may impact the psychological and physical health of children. During peak lockdowns on the pandemic, children were severely limited in their options of physical activity. Studies showed that child anxiety scores were over five standard deviations higher than previous normative values prior to the pandemic (Alves, et al. 2021). Having a lack of physical activity greatly impacted the mental health of many children. Children who were able to perform some sort of physical activity scored lower in anxiety compared to those who had more sedentary leisure time. Despite these studies, there is still limited knowledge on the impacts due to how recent and ongoing the pandemic is as of 2022. There are no prior studies to compare new and current research, but this will help prepare us for any future situations similar to the Covid-19 pandemic.
